The University of Connecticut and the Avery Point Campus have a number of scholarship opportunities for incoming and continuing students.
Kitchings Family Scholarship
Two $4000 scholarships will be awarded annually to entering freshman. One scholarship will be awarded to an incoming Marine Sciences major and one to an incoming Maritime Studies major.
Candidates must rank in the top 15% of their graduating class or have a minimum GPA of 3.2, have achieved a minimum combined SAT score of 1100/1600 (Critical Reading and Math scores only), or an ACT composite score of 24+. Award recipients must apply and be accepted to the Avery Point campus to be eligible for this award.
Candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to ocean focused/maritime programs or initiatives in school or community will be given priority consideration.
All candidates will be reviewed on the basis of their UConn application (no separate application necessary) and priority consideration will be given to candidates who apply for Fall admission by December 1.
These scholarships are applicable to U.S. citizens and permanent residents only.
The Nutmeg Scholarship honors the exceptional accomplishments of Connecticut high school seniors. All semifinalists and finalists in the National Achievement Scholarship Program, the National Hispanic Recognition Program, and the National Merit Semifinalist Competition, in addition to outstanding students from every Connecticut high school may be nominated to apply. Nominations will be made by the Guidance Counselor’s Office at each Connecticut high school. To be eligible for nomination, the student must be a Connecticut resident graduating from a Connecticut high school. The undergraduate admissions application must be completed by November 1. Selection is highly competitive.

Presidential Scholars Award for Valedictorians and Salutatorians
Merit-based Scholarship (renewable for 4 years; valued at a fixed amount determined on a yearly basis) plus a one-time $2,500 Undergraduate Research Fellowship
Students who rank number one or two in their graduating class will be considered for the Presidential Scholars Award. An additional one-time Fellowship is made available to allow the Presidential Scholar to engage in a research experience with faculty in an area of his or her interest. Priority consideration will be given to those who complete the application by December 1. To be eligible for nomination, the student must be a Connecticut resident graduating from a Connecticut high school.
Merit-based Scholarship (renewable for 4 years; valued at a fixed amount determined on a yearly basis)
Students who rank in the top of their graduating class and/or have achieved a competitive high school grade point average with a minimum combined critical reading and math SAT and/or ACT Composite score determined by the Undergraduate Admissions Office. In addition, students must have demonstrated a commitment to multicultural diversity programs and initiatives through their leadership, special talents, and achievements in school and/or community to be considered for a Leadership Scholarship. Priority consideration will be given to those who complete the application by December 1.
Available to in-state and out-of-state students.
Students submit a common application for Avery Point scholarships by early March, and will be considered for the following awards.
AAUW Award: Scholarship awarded to a mature woman who is able to manage a full life of responsibilities while finding time to excel in her academic pursuits.
BGS Scholarship: Awarded to students enrolled in the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) program. Financial need is considered.
Chericoni Family Award: Awarded to a student who has persevered in his/her studies. Financial need is considered.
Cooper Scholarship: Awarded to full time Avery Point undergraduate students in Maritime Studies or Marine Sciences degree programs pursuing opportunities in experiential learning opportunities. Financial need is considered.
Marston Scholarship: Awarded to a full time Avery Point undergraduate student enrolled in a 4-year degree program offered at Avery Point. Demonstrated academic achievement is required.
Retention (4-yr degree) Scholarship: Awarded to a “solid students who are also good campus citizens.” Must be full time Avery Point undergraduate student enrolled in a 4-year degree program offered at Avery Point(Marine Sciences, Maritime Studies, English, or American Studies). Financial need is considered.
Sinay Family Award: Awarded to a full-time degree-seeking undergraduate student who will be enrolled at the Avery Point campus in the Fall 2015 semester. Financial need is considered.
Southeastern Chapter Alumni Association Award: Awarded to full-time degree-seeking undergraduate students. Must be a Full-time student at the Avery Point campus in the fall semester 2015. Financial need is considered.
Special Circumstances: Awarded to a full-time degree-seeking Avery Point undergraduate student. Financial need is considered.
SSS Scholarship: Awarded to students enrolled in the Student Support Services (SSS) program. Financial need is considered.
Women’s Network Scholarship: Awarded to a woman enrolled in the BGS program.
