Student Activities

Mission

As an integral part of the educational mission of the University of Connecticut, the Department of Campus Activities provides programs, services, and facilities designed to (1) facilitate student growth and development by ensuring opportunities for participation and involvement in a diverse array of organizations, programs and activities; (2) ensure opportunities for students to learn and practice leadership and self-governance skills; and, (3)complement and enhance the academic and community life  experiences of all members of the University community ---  students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests.

Values

The programs and services of the Department of Campus Activities shall reflect the following core values: student development, building community, appreciation of diversity, and high standards of customer service.

Goals

In keeping with the stated mission and values, all programs and services of the Department of Campus Activities will further one or more of the following goals:

  • To facilitate co-curricular learning by providing opportunities for students to develop, plan, implement and participate in programs and activities that foster personal growth and development and group effectiveness
  • To provide employment, leadership and volunteer service opportunities for students with emphasis on learning and practicing life skills.
  • To provide opportunities for social interaction and open dialogue with an emphasis on social responsibility and the interchange of ideas and thought between members of the University community as well as with those outside the University community.
  • To provide facilities for meetings, conferences, and various cultural, educational, social, and recreational programs and activities that complement the learning experience.
  • To provide services and conveniences to support and enhance the daily activities and needs of individuals and groups in the University community

Student Clubs and Organizations

One of the best ways to get involved on campus is to join or form a club. For more information contact Randall Paterson in room 324 in the Branford house or call 405-9014.

Active Clubs on campus

  • Associated Student Government ASG: Student Bodies governing organization, 
  • Multicultural Club: The purpose of the Multi-cultural Club is to unite all Students, of all races and ethnicities, at the University of Connecticut Avery Point, while offering services to improve the campus community.
  • Photography Club: To promote the art of Photography.
  • Martial Arts Cub: Learn the art of Jujitsu, the self-defense system of the Samurai.
  • Toast Masters: A Public speaking organization, that will improve your communication skills and open doors in your personal and professional life.
  • Gay Strait Alliance (GSA): For any Student interested in Gay Rights issues, education,  tolerance and acceptance, equality, or even just a safe place to let your true colors shine.
  • Sailing Club: The sailing club offers a mixture of recreational and competitive sailing.
  • Student Leaders for Activities Management SLAM: A branch organization of the ASG that does the Activities programming for the Campus.
  • Husky Ambassadors: Established to represent the University and promote school pride.
  • The Point: Student Newspaper
  • The Spectrum: Literary Magazine
