Step One

Course Placement

We want you to start your first semester at UConn with a selection of courses that are an appropriate match for your current academic skills. In particular, it is critical that you are well informed about what English and math courses you should take. Carefully consider your courses for English and math, and make some notes to yourself as you work through this information. You will be asked to make a preliminary choice of courses on the registration form in Step Two. When you attend the advising and registration session, an advisor will talk to you about your background and your interests, to help you make the best choices.

Review the Avery Point English placement statement, math placement statement, and chemistry placement statement to select the proper courses.

Refer to the University course placement website to complete the Calculus Readiness Survey, and for additional discussion of English and quantitative requirements. All students who intend to take any advanced math class (this includes all science and engineering majors) MUST take the Calculus Readiness Survey prior to attending a registration session.
